Week 2 Fantasy Picks

It didn’t take long for injuries to rear their ugly heads in Week 1 of the 2012 NFL season. Greg Jennings, Fred Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are just some of the names who won’t be available in Week 2. Add in dud outings from most of the Bears and Packers stars last night, and loads of fantasy owners will be scrambling to fill out their lineups. Here are some players who deserve strong consideration.
Ben Roethlisberger – Big Ben was merely adequate versus Denver and this week he draws the always stingy Jets defense. However, that stingy defense will be without Darrelle Revis, which bodes well for both Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown, and of course Roethlisberger. He won’t go off, but he’s serviceable if needed.
C.J. Spiller – The lone bright spot in Buffalo’s dismantling at the hands of the Jets in Week 1 was third-year back Spiller, who accounted for 194 yards and a score. With Fred Jackson out with a sprained knee, this is Spiller’s time to shine. The Chiefs defense surrendered only 84 yards to the Falcons a week ago, although their inability to slow down the passing attack had much to do with those numbers. Spiller will get plenty of touches, so start him if you got him.
Donald Brown – If you need a flex player, Brown is a decent option. He only received nine carries against Chicago, but he did accumulate 48 yards and a touchdown. Look for the Week 2 matchup with Minnesota to be closer on the scoreboard, meaning more carries for Brown and possibly a couple of receptions.
Brandon LaFell – It’s way too early to call LaFell a breakout candidate, but Cam Newton appears to be looking for him on deep routes. Toss in the Saints secondary being atrocious and LaFell suddenly becomes a viable option as a number three receiver.
Malcolm Floyd – By default, Floyd is Philip Rivers’ most trusted pass catcher not named Antonio Gates. The Titans secondary struggled against new England’s dynamic tight end duo, but held Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd to nine grabs for 83 yards. That said, Floyd is still worth the gamble.
Jacob Tamme – Peyton Manning looked fine in beating Pittsburgh, but remove a short dump off to Demaryius Thomas that resulted in a 71-yard touchdown and the stats aren’t very good. However, Tamme caught five balls for 43 yards and a score. He and Manning have solid chemistry, so feel confident about giving him the nod.
