MLB Betting Picks: Cincinnati Reds at Arizona Diamondbacks
Added on Aug 28, 2012 by Jack Thurman in
The Cincinnati Reds have just about put away the third place Pittsburgh Pirates and now they’ve set their sites on the final realistic challenger in the NL Central. Cincy currently leads the division by 6 games over the St. Louis Cardinals and could add to that lead today as they face the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks. The D-Backs had lost 4 straight and six of their last ten going in to Tuesday’s second game of this series.

We’ll go back to the concept we outlined on Monday and one that has served us well over the past month. For some reason, the public has cooled on the Cincinnati Reds though it’s not readily apparent why. The Reds now have 78 wins–more than any team in baseball. By the end of Tuesday’s action they could even the Washington Nationals for the best winning percentage in baseball as well. They’re facing an Arizona team that–despite the fact that they’re technically within striking distance of the NL West leaders–isn’t really that good. They were 1 game under .500 entering Tuesday’s contest and have lost a good deal of money at home where they’re barely above the ‘Mendoza Line’.
Reds will start Mat Latos who may not be the strongest pitcher in their rotation but isn’t in particularly bad form either. Arizona will counter with talented young lefthander Pat Corbin. Corbin has a lot of upside potential but his 4.40 ERA so far this season is nothing special. There seems to be a perception among the betting public that Cincy is vulnerable against lefties but that’s definitely not the case–pending the outcome of Tuesday’s game the Reds were 26-15 +8.6 units against southpaws.
These teams split a four game series at Cincinnati earlier this summer but the Reds have now won 5 of the last 7 meetings at Phoenix’s Chase Field. And as we said before they’re just the far better team. We’ll take one of the best team’s in baseball as a small road favorite over a Diamondbacks team that seems to be running out of gas down the stretch.
Bet Cincinnati Reds (Latos) -130 over Arizona Diamondbacks (Corbin)
