MLB Betting Picks: Colorado Rockies at New York Mets
Added on Aug 23, 2012 by Jack Thurman in
The New York Mets are now officially the *hapless* New York Mets and have slumped to the point that they’re in the mix with Philadelphia and Miami for the worst record in the division. The Mets and Phillies are now 20 games back of division leading Washington while the Marlins are 21 games out. They’ll try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Colorado Rockies today at CitiField.

The Mets are officially a mess. They’ve lost 7 of their last 10 games and 9 of their last 13. They’ve dropped to 28-33 -10.8 units at home and can’t even beat the bottom feeders of the National League. Since the All Star Break they’re 4-11 -12 units against opponents with losing records. Today they’re also going to go with a first time starter in the Major Leagues as Collin McHugh gets the nod. With so much going against the Mets why are they a -160 home favorite in this game? That’s the question we’re asking and this is the answer we’re giving–they shouldn’t be.
The Rockies aren’t much of a team but they’ve been playing reasonably good baseball of late. They enter this game having won 8 of their last 10 games and 9 of their last 13. They’ve still got five games to make up in the standings if they want to avoid finishing in last place in the NL West but they’re now well clear of the Houston Astros and no longer in the discussion for the worst record in baseball. The Rockies have never been known as much of a road team but for whatever reason they’ve dominated the Mets at CitiField. Since 2009 the Rockies have won 8 of 10 head to head against the Mets at this venue. Not sure whether the Rockies are exerting a better effort hoping to avoid the cellar or whether they’ve just taken advantage of some horrible opponents in their recent upswing but it really doesn’t matter, and especially against the Mets. The Mets are a go against in any situation now and in this game there’s a lot to like about the team we’re using against them.
