The wait is finally over. NFL training camps are opening across the country and the 2012 season is inching closer by the day. Rookie contracts are being inked, veterans are signing franchise tenders, injured players are testing repaired appendages and bold statements are being proclaimed. Here’s a quick roundup of what’s happening both on and off the field.

Vikings sign Kalil – First-round left tackle Ryan Kalil avoided a holdout and agreed to terms with the Vikings today. Details of the deal have yet to be disclosed, but it’s safe to assume he received a handsome amount of change worthy of a Top 5 pick.

MJD holding strong – The Jaguars best player is digging in for a lengthy holdout unless the front office meets his demands regarding a restructured contract. The 2011 rushing champ wants similar money given to Arian Foster, Matt Forte, LeSean McCoy and Ray Rice. Both sides appear determined to stand their ground, so this could get ugly.

Goldson tendered – 49ers Pro Bowl safety Dashon Goldson finally signed his franchise tender after failing to reach a long-term extension. He’ll earn over $6.2 million this year, but will have to prove last season wasn’t a mirage if he wants a bigger payday.

Poe pens rookie contract – Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe will earn over $11 million in guaranteed money after signing a four-year deal. The massive rookie has been penciled in to start for a Chiefs defense that ranked 26th against the run a season ago.

Pats dump Addai – If the reports are accurate, ex-Colts running back Joseph Addai quit during a conditioning test prompting Bill Belichick to cut him loose. Needless to say, not giving 100% effort isn’t something Belichick looks for in a free agent acquisition.

Martellus Bennett bashes ‘Boys - Giants tight end Martellus Bennett can’t wait to “kick those guy’s asses,” referring to his former Dallas Cowboys teammates. Of course he’ll have to actually get on the field to do so and that’s not something he’s done much during his career.
