Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at Miami Marlins
Added on Jun 24, 2012 by Jack Thurman in
Interleague play wraps up for the year on Sunday and we’ll once again look at the game between Toronto and Miami as they fight to stay and/or get out of last place. Toronto is in a last place tie with Boston in the AL East while Miami is in the NL East basement 1/2 game behind Philadelphia.

Sometimes the best way to make money in baseball betting is to find something that works and repeat it until it stops working. That’s what we’ve been doing with the Miami Marlins and what we’re going to do today–betting against the Marlins recently has been money in the bank and we’ll be on board as the Blue Jays go for the sweep. The Marlins are in horrendous form and are finding new ways to lose games as was evidenced by yesterday’s defeat in which they squandered a solid pitching performance from Josh Johnson to throw the game away late. They’ve now lost 11 of their last 13 and 15 of their last 20. They’ve been especially bad in Interleague play going 4-13 against the American League this season.
Miami will start lefthander Mark Buehrle who has been serviceable though far from dominating this season. The veteran southpaw checks in with a 3.82 ERA overall and a tidy 3.21 mark at home. The Marlins have lost 8 of his 14 assignments overall but have won 3 of his 5 home starts. Toronto’s Jesse Chavez was shelled in his first start of the year, allowing 4 ER in just 2.7 innings of work against Milwaukee but the Blue Jays’ offense would bail him out as they fought back for a 10-9 victory. We expect him to be in better form here against a team that is finding new ways to lose games every time out.
Miami has lost a ton of money at home-they’ve gone 17-20 for a net loss of -10 units. We typically like Buehrle and look for opportunities to play on him but the Marlins are just a train wreck right now and until they demonstrate a reversal of form there’s no rationale for *not* going against them. We’d rather back the battle tested Blue Jays who have been able to scrap out a winning record in the toughest division in baseball
