Deja Vu For Terrell Owens

Remember back when Terrell Owens inferred quarterback Jeff Garcia was gay? Or the time he trashed Donovan McNabb for being out of shape in Super Bowl XXXIX? How about when he claimed McNabb “betrayed” their friendship? Well, we can now add another name to his ex-teammate/QB hit list: Tony Romo. In a recent interview with ESPN Dallas, T.O. pulled no punches when the topic of Romo was broached.

Believe it or not, Owens doesn’t look back fondly on his relationship with Romo and of course accepts zero blame for the widening rift that opened up during his three seasons in Big D.

“With that situation, dude, I’ve kind of lost my respect for that situation,” Owens said. “Man, that’s a guy [Romo] I shed tears for, I went to bat for. Then obviously, ultimately I’m not in Dallas anymore and I know he definitely had a hand in that. So, again, it’s one of those things that you kind of just have to bite your tongue and keep moving on, you know what I mean?”

Mr. Me strikes again! The beauty of Owens is he never changes. No matter where he plays, he’s never the problem. It’s always someone else’s fault. If nothing else, the petulant playmaker is consistent, albeit deluded. Blaming McNabb and Romo for booting him out of Philadelphia and Dallas, respectively, is ludicrous. Did both signal-callers sour on Owens’ antics? Probably, but they alone weren’t responsible for his exit.

Andy Reid and Jerry Jones are both controlling personalities. Each wants to win and both will go to extremes to do so. The point is, if Owens didn’t blow up his spot by behaving like a king-sized jackass, Reid and Jones would’ve tolerated his behavior and not outright released him.

Owens refuses to let sleeping dogs lie. He can’t help but poke the bear every so often to remind everyone who forgot about him that he’s still relevant. We’ve seen all this before and we will continue to see it as long as media types keep sticking a microphone Owens’ face.
