Vince Young Eager to Start Again

The mercurial career of quarterback Vince Young is once again at a crossroads. The former Titans and Eagles signal-caller is a free agent in search of a new gig. And according to the man himself, he’d prefer a chance to return home to the city of Houston. One small problem. The Texans already have Matt Schaub topping their depth chart and VY isn’t keen on riding the pine again.
Toss in last year’s fill-in hero T.J. Yates and Houston is pretty set under center. Nevertheless, Young would like nothing more than to take his talents back to the great state of Texas.
“I would love to play at home. That would be a dream come true and anything I can do to help out with the team,” Young told KILT in Houston via SportsRadioInterview.com.”
“Dreams” aside, Young needs to be a tad more realistic in his endeavors. Can he start somewhere? Definitely. If Mark Sanchez, Matt Cassel and Alex Smith are starters, Vince Young certainly deserves a shot. Right now, he’s equal to if not better than several number one quarterbacks.
However, a more reasonable scenario would be backing up a high risk starter like he did last year with the Eagles. He was far from spectacular in his three starts in 2011, but his signature arm strength and athleticism appeared to be intact. Teams like Denver and Jacksonville would be wise to give him a call.
His accuracy and decision-making must improve for him to successfully resurrect his career. Nine interceptions in six games played a season ago won’t cut it. Some of his mistakes can be attributed to his lack of familiarity with Andy Reid’s intricate offense, but the rest was him trying to do too much.
VY needs to be under control at all times to be effective. When he allows his emotions to take over, bad things have a tendency to happen. His talent has never been in doubt, but his maturity level is a whole other story.
