Ryan Leaf Busted Again Two Days After Posting Bail

Obviously former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf is in serious ‘downward spiral’ mode. Just two days after posting bail on charges of burglary and drug possession in Montana, Leaf was arrested again early Monday on the same charges. Central Montana Drug Force Commander Chris Hickman says Leaf was taken into custody and charged for a Sunday burglary that was almost identical to the one that got him busted the first time around.
Hickman knew what he was talking about when he made this prescient comment on Saturday:
“We do have some information that this may not be an isolated incident.”
The bad news for Leaf is that he’ll have to stay behind bars this time despite a court appearance later today. In addition to the burglary and drug charges, Leaf was detained on a probation violation from a 2009 incident in Texas. At the time, Leaf took a plea deal on–surprise, surprise–burglary and drug charges and was sentenced to 10 years probation. The Texas district attorney, James Farren requested that Leaf’s probation be revoked due to the first Montana offense. Farren said that he’s unfortunately not really surprised that Leaf is back behind bars:
“I think it’s sad. While I hoped for better results, I’m not surprised it happened.”
Montana drug task force honcho Hickman said on Saturday that he wanted to apprehend Leaf before he got into any more trouble:
“We felt it was necessary to confront him as soon as possible before it got any further out of hand.”
Leaf insisted that he had a prescription from some of the painkillers but has yet to provide proof:
“We established from Mr. Leaf that he was receiving prescription medication from this company but we’re still not sure what they are.”
Leaf released a statement this weekend through his publicist:
“I’ve made some mistakes, and have no excuses. I am using the tools I’ve learned to move forward rather than backwards, and will be open to talking about the details in the days to come. I am confident that there will be further understanding when the facts are revealed, and feel very blessed for all of the support, especially from my friends and family.”
Leaf obviously needs some serious help, so at this point he may be better off in jail.
