Jeff-Fisher-2

The St. Louis Rams have found their man, tabbing  Jeff Fisher to be the team’s new head coach. After days of weighing his options between the Dolphins and Rams, Fisher agreed to terms with the latter. Details of the contract have yet to be disclosed, but it’s rumored to in the neighborhood of $7 million per season. Fisher spent 2011 away from the game after 17  seasons with the Titans organization.

It had been suggested Fisher was seeking a team with stability at the quarterback position which, if accurate, could’ve been the deciding factor between choosing St. Louis over Miami. Despite a dreadful, injury riddled 2011 campaign, Sam Bradford is still considered one of the up and coming young signal-callers in the NFL.

The Rams also own the number two overall pick in April’s draft. With several areas of need, especially on defense and at wide receiver, Fisher and the rest of the front office braintrust will have plenty of ammunition available to start the rebuilding process.

Fisher won three divisional titles and qualified for the playoffs six times during his tenure with Tennessee. He’s also been a defensive coordinator for three separate teams since entering the professional ranks in 1985. Like the recently dismissed Steve Spagnuolo, Fisher brings a wealth of defensive knowledge to the table. However, the offense has finished dead last in two of the last three years.

Since Mike Martz was fired in 2006, the Rams have compiled a pathetic 23-73 record. Their last winning season was in 2003 and their last playoff win came in 2004. Needless to say, the task ahead will be a daunting one for Fisher, who adopts a roster that scored 193 points while allowing 407.

Cornerbacks Morris Claiborne and Dre Kirkpatrick, linebacker Courtney Upshaw and wide receiver Justin Blackmon are just some of the prospects on the Rams radar. Although, with the offense in desperate need of a playmaking receiver, Blackmon makes the most sense.
