The New York Giants have never been shy about calling out opponents prior to facing them. Brandon Jacobs, Antrel Rolle, Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora have all taken their shots during the season. Well, on the heels of their Divisional Playoff battle with the mighty Packers, it’s Rolle’s turn to do the chest-puffing. Despite Green Bay’s position as the prohibitive favorite to repeat as champions, Rolle says the Giants aren’t scared.

A team needs an abundance of confidence to knock off a 15-1 monster and if we’re to believe Rolle’s words, Big Blue isn’t lacking in that department.

“I don’t put any opponent on a pedestal. I understand they have a lot of weapons on this team and they are an awesome opponent, and so are we… “We’re a different team right now. We understand that and we’re going to keep that focus and keep that drive. We’re going to keep playing at that same level and we’re going to pick it up a bit. We’re coming in here expecting to win this game; that is going to be our mindset and stay our mind set. No one is going to tear that away from us.”

The Giants shouldn’t put Green Bay on a pedestal. It’s not as if they were blown out in the December 4th meeting at the Meadowlands. They lost 38-35 and Eli Manning lit up the vulnerable Pack secondary for 347 yards and three touchdowns.

But in order to flip the script, Rolle and his defensive teammates must find a way to slow down would-be MVP Aaron Rodgers, who torched them for 369 yards and four scores. A task easier said than done. Green Bay is averaging 40.1 points per game at home this season. Of all teams, the Rams are the only one to hold them under 35 points in Lambeau.

Then again, the G-Men seem to relish the underdog role. Lest we forget, they won a Super Bowl a few years ago defying the odds. Could it be déjà vu all over again?
