Romo Injured Hand Still A Concern For Cowboys

Tony Romo

All indications are that Tony Romo is slated to start for the Dallas Cowboys in their ‘must win’ game against the New York Giants on Sunday night. He’s been upgraded to ‘probable’ on official NFL injury reports but all is not well in Dallas and Romo has been limited in practice this week.

Romo has been a participant in the Cowboys’ practices all week, but he’s yet to take a snap from center. That fact doesn’t bode well for the Cowboys’ chances against an aggressive NY Giants defensive front but Romo is trying to remain optimistic:

“We’re still in the process of doing some things like that and I think each day that stuff gets a little bit better.”

Romo wore a wrap on his injured hand during Thursday’s practice session and says he’s looking forward to the high stakes of Sunday’s game:

“I think you have to go out there and practice all week and get yourself ready to go to the game on Sunday. I’m excited that we’re in this position and we have an opportunity to go and play in a big game like this. This is when it gets fun. No matter what, you’re not going to sit one of these out.”

Head coach Jason Garrett gave this assessment of Romo’s efforts:

“Tony did a little bit more today than he did yesterday. I wouldn’t constitute a full practice, but he’s making some progress. The swelling still is there. … All the functional things that a quarterback has to do, he has to be able to do by game time, and he’s making progress in all those areas.”

Romo has been the proverbial ‘battered man’ all season long as he’s played through one injury or another but says it’s just part of the game:

“I think a lot of quarterbacks throughout the league play through stuff every week. This is just obviously sometimes it can be magnified because you’re playing in a game that’s like this, where it’s a win or go home type of game and so people are going to talk about certain things. Stuff just comes up throughout the season. It’s just a normal part of playing football. No one cares and once you get out there, it’s about winning and losing, so that’s all it’s going to be about.”

The Cowboys are currently +3 points NFL betting underdogs with the total set at 46.
