Fantasy Football: Week 14 Value Picks
Added on Dec 08, 2011 by Scott in
In most fantasy leagues, the regular season concludes in Week 14. You’re either sitting pretty waiting for the playoffs to begin, rejoicing the end of a miserable year or searching for a win to qualify for the postseason. If it’s the last thing, then you will be looking to net as many points as possible to increase the odds of securing a victory. Now is the time to go big or go home. So, before you fill out that lineup, here are some names to consider.
Joe Flacco (vs. IND) – Listen, if you have better options by all means roll with them. Flacco is the definition of maddening when it comes to fantasy. Thirteen touchdowns in twelve games is pathetic. Speaking of pathetic, have you seen the Colts defense lately? They yield the most points in the league and have been torched for 21 touchdowns through the air. Flacco is hardly a safe bet, but he has a better matchup than Big Ben and Vick.
C.J. Spiller (@ SD) – The former Clemson Tiger hasn’t looked overly impressive in his two starts since Fred Jackson was lost for the season. 138 rushing yards and one score is okay, but not must-start material. That being said, he has a fantastic matchup versus a Chargers defense that was shredded by Maurice Jones-Drew and Willis McGahee the last two weeks. Matt Forte owners would love to have Spiller on their roster. Activate him if you got him.
Jabar Gaffney (vs. NE) – Gaffney posted an uncharacteristic goose egg against the Jets last week, but that had more to do with Darrelle Revis than anything. This week he draws New England’s worst ranked pass defense fresh off allowing Dan Orlovsky to toss for 353 yards and two touchdowns. With tight end Fred Davis suspended, someone has to catch passes from Rex Grossman. In a game the Redskins will be playing catch-up, that guy should be Gaffney.
Vernon Davis (@ ARZ) – Davis has been a major disappointment in 2011. After snagging 20 touchdowns in 2009 and 2010, he has only five thus far. However, one of those came in his first meeting with the Cardinals when he caught five balls for 67 yards. Don’t expect gaudy numbers, but with so few quality options at tight end, Davis is a good bet to have a productive Sunday.
Seattle D/ST (vs. STL) – The Seahawks defense has been solid if not altogether consistent. The last time the played the woeful Rams, they allowed 185 total yards, recorded five sacks and picked off Sam Bradford once. Considering the Rams might be forced to start third-stringer Tom Brandstarter at quarterback, feel good about sliding Seattle into your lineup.
