Romo’s Ribs Still An Issue

Tony Romo has demonstrated considerable toughness by continuing to play despite a broken rib. It happened in Week 3, but the injury typically takes six to eight weeks to heal under teh best of circumstances. Playing quarterback in the NFL, unfortunately, isn’t the ‘best of circumstances’. Romo is still wearing a protective vest to further protect his ribs.
Romo says that the injury is not completely healed but is getting better:
“They’re getting better. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, they’ll be all the way healed. Still the vest. I think we’ve got the shot one more week hopefully and then we’re done. We’ll see. That’s what they’re telling me.”
Romo is referring to the pain killer shots he’s been taking on game day. Despite the injury he’s not shown any problems with his range of motion or throwing mechanics. He’s taken a few hits, but has apparently shaken them off nicely.
Romo may continue to wear the vest for awhile to protect his injured rib. He says the vest is somewhat cumbersome but he’s getting used to it:
“It will be nice whenever I’m able to wear something a little smaller. But it’s been great. It’s been a benefit. It will be nice here going forward.”
The Cowboys are currently on a two game losing streak though they generally played well in a 20-16 loss to the New England Patriots which they covered as +6.5 point NFL betting underdogs. They have a good chance getting back on the winning track this weekend when they host the winless St. Louis Rams. The Rams have been decimated by injuries on both sides of the ball and the team has severely underachieved in a year in which many expected them to contend for a divisional title. The Cowboys are -13 point favorites with the total set at 44. They’ll then play the Eagles at Philadelphia before returning home for home games against Seattle and Buffalo. Their next road outing will be a rivalry rematch with the Washington Redskins. The two teams will hook up at FedEx Field on November 20th. Despite the Cowboys’ struggles they’ve caught a break due to the lack of a dominant team in the NFC East this year. The Giants currently lead the division with a 4-2 record.
