Former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor got his way and into the NFL’s supplemental draft. In the process, he was assessed a 5 game suspension by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The suspension was somewhat controversial since the NFL was ‘punishing’ Pryor for infractions committed at the college level.

Pryor is considered a ‘project’ by the Raiders but coach Hue Jackson sees a lot of potential:

“He’s very talented. I thought he did some good things but we’ll continue this week to do that, to get him back in the mix with his teammates so that I can see him a little bit more and evaluate that talent and see where I can put it.”

Pryor didn’t talk to the media but starting quarterback Jason Campbell reports he’s excited to be back on the field with his teammates:

“I think he’s just excited to be back on the practice field. Having to sit out for five weeks and, obviously, not receive a paycheck for five weeks, I know kind of stings, too. But I think he’s obviously excited about being out there with his teammates and getting to learn football and getting to learn our offense and grow together.”

There was some concern among NFL teams due to Pryor’s infractions at Ohio State but Coach Jackson says he’s been a ‘model student’:

“Just like you’d like for a young quarterback to be. He spent a lot of time out here preparing himself and getting ready. I could not be a part of this. Our coaching staff could not be a part of it but the young man, I can tell, he did a lot of work prior to today. It shows that he’s gotten better.”

Campbell said that Pryor does more listening than talking but isn’t afraid to assert himself:

“He’ll come up with suggestions. He’ll write it on the board — ‘I think we should do this on this play. So I said, ‘What are you, our consultant now?’”

The Raiders host the Cleveland Browns this weekend trying to build on their surprising 3-2 start to the season. Oakland is a -6′ point NFL betting favorite.
