Week 5 Injury Report

They are the great equalizer in football. Injuries. Teams make a point to not blame breaks and tears for losing because they are part of the game. However, it should come as no small surprise the teams that make the playoffs are normally the healthiest. If the Colts have Peyton Manning, they aren’t 0-5. If the Rams didn’t lose a half-dozen starters, they probably aren’t 0-4. That said, here’s the Week 5 injury report.
Mario Williams (Texans) – A torn pectoral muscle will likely end Williams’ season. His stellar play through five games had much to do with Houston’s defense being one of the league’s best. He will have surgery later this week.
Tarvaris Jackson (Seahawks) – The Seattle signal-caller exited in the third quarter with a pectoral strain. He’ll undergo an MRI today to determine the severity. The Seahawks are on a bye this week.
Marcus Gilbert (Steelers) – The starting right tackle suffered a shoulder injury that head coach Mike Tomlin described as “significant.” It’s the same shoulder Gilbert hurt three weeks ago. His availability for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville is unknown.
Joseph Addai (Colts) – A dreaded hamstring injury will likely sideline Addai for at least one week. The oft-injured running back has never played a full 16-game schedule.
Chris Johnson (Titans) – Johnson’s first trip to the end zone was spoiled by a tight hamstring. He reportedly doesn’t believe it to be a serious strain, but he’ll be closely monitored. The Titans are also on a bye in Week 6.
LeGarrette Blount (Bucs) – The bruising back came up lame with a left knee injury that might prevent him from taking the field this Sunday, according to head coach Raheem Morris.
Gerald McCoy (Bucs) – The second-year defensive tackle left yesterday’s blowout loss to the 49ers with a potentially serious ankle injury. An update on how long he’ll be out should come later today.
Mike Tolbert/Ryan Mathews (Chargers) – Both Chargers runners left Denver less than 100%. Tolbert was diagnosed with a concussion, while Mathews was spotted on crutches after straining his calf. Both are expected to be okay after the bye week.
Brian Dawkins (Broncos) – The veteran safety was forced from the game with a neck injury after a first quarter collision. No updates were available. Denver is on a bye this week.
Josh Morgan (49ers) – Reportedly fractured his right ankle. It’s not known yet if it will end his season.
Julio Jones (Falcons) – The rookie left the Sunday nighter with a hamstring pull. He didn’t return and his availability for Week 6 is unclear.
Chad Clifton (Packers) – Green Bay’s starting left tackle was forced from the Sunday night game in the first half with a severe right hamstring strain. The Pack is already without right tackle Bryan Bulaga.
Chris Owens (Falcons) – The nickel cornerback suffered what appeared to be a concussion after covering a punt. He’ll be evaluated throughout the week.
