Vince Young Injured In Eagles Preseason Finale

The Philadelphia Eagles have been the recipients of a good deal of hype in the NFL preseason with some pegging them as likely Super Bowl champions. This, despite the fact that they’ve yet to accomplish anything on the field. Things could be already starting to unravel for the talent rich/character challenged team–backup quarterback Vince Young left the Eagles’ 24-14 win over the Jets due to what is being described as a hamstring strain.
Young led a pair of TD drives against the Jets’ scrubs before leaving the game. Although a formal diagnosis won’t be available until Friday Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid tried to sound unconcerned:
“I think he’s going to be OK, from what I understand. We’ll MRI him just to make sure. We’ll see how he does after that.”
Reid is happy with how Young has performed:
“He’s done a nice job and he would have scored on the last one. That was a run-in right there.”
Mike Kafka replaced Young, but he didn’t emerged unscathed–he was popped in the ribs and suffered a bruise:
“Once I recovered, I was able to go back in and play. They took a timeout so I could get my bearings straight.”
The Jets’ quarterbacks didn’t escape the injury bug–Alabama rookie Greg McElroy, expected to back up Mark Sanchez this year, left with a dislocated thumb:
“We’ll get it looked at (Friday). Hopefully, the recovery will be quick. You’ve got to be optimistic about it.”
Undrafted Drew Willy came into the came and competed a touchdown pass to Scotty McKnight. McKnight looked very good throughout the game:
“My main goal just going into camp in general was to make the most of every opportunity I had. For the only ball to come my way in a game this preseason and be able to catch it for a touchdown, that’s a good feeling.”
The Eagles will start the year on the road, playing against the Rams at St. Louis. The Jets will be at home for their opening game, hosting the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium for the first prime time Sunday night game of the season.
