Breaking Down Strikeforce Fedor Vs. Silva: Fedor Vs Silva, Arlovski Vs. Kharitonov

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Silva
The big question in this fight is: How is Emelianenko going to react to his first real loss? Yes, he has a loss earlier in his career, but it was a doctor’s stoppage due to a cut. When he fought Febricio Werdum he was finished, for the first time in his legendary career, in a fight that stunned the MMA world. One can only assume, that with a fighter as experienced as Fedor, that he will be able to put that out of his mind and focus on the task at hand.
There are a few things about Silva that people that people should keep in mind when previewing this fight. Silva is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Karate. He is an intelligent fighter that will enjoy a 10 inch reach advantage over Fedor, and he is a game fighter. Just like Fedor, Silva has a loss to Werdum as well.
It will be interesting to see Silva’s game plan against Fedor as many are wondering if Febricio Werdum has solved the riddle of beating him. However, when you review the type of people that Fedor has defeated you have to give him the advantage in this fight. Silva can go out and try to get tagged by Fedor, and hope Emelianenko follows him to the floor. Not only is that really bad for your health, but you can’t plan on staying conscious when a guy like Fedor connects on you. Antonio Silva is no where near as accomplished as Werdum is on the ground, and he has never finished anyone off of his back in 17 fights. I see Fedor overwhelming Silva mid way through the first round, and getting the TKO victory.
Andrei Arlovski vs. Sergei Kharitonov
There are plenty of unanswered questions in both of these fights that make it hard to breakdown. Many are wondering if all of those stand up wars that Arlovski was in are catching up with him. He survived the fight against Antonio Silva, but lost to a decision. Before that he was knocked out by fellow tournament fighters Fedor and Brett rogers. The 15–8 Arlovski has 11 wins by KO/TKO and two submission wins, and will most likely try to keep this fight on the feet and try to knock out Sergei.
Kharitonov (17–4) is coming off of a knock out win over Tatsuya Mizuno at Dynamite!! 2010 this past new years eve in Japan. In his 17 wins, he has 8 submissions and 8 KO/TKOs, and only one of his wins were by decision. He has been finished twice in his four losses. As a member of Russian Top Team, Kharitonov has been studying combat sambo since he was 16 years old, and is very capable of submitting a fighter like Arlovski.
Kharitonov is the small favorite in this fight, and thats mainly because of Arlovski’s 3 fight losing streak going into this fight. For some reason I think Kharitonov will try to overwhelm early in this fight, and with the striking acumen of Arlovski, I think thats a bad plan. I am picking Arlovski in this fight, and I think he finishes Kharitonov in the second round via strikes.
