Super Bowl 45: Other Prop Bets
Added on Feb 06, 2011 by Jack Thurman in
We’ve covered most of the ‘typical’ Super Bowl betting props categories, but there’s no shortage of bets that don’t really fit in to any specific area of the game or TV broadcast. Here’s an assortment of prop bets of that type–these are available at sportsbooks featured on this site but they may not be available at all books.
THE OBAMA PROP:
President Obama will prattle on before the game, and 5 Dimes has a prop bet about which team he’ll mention first:
Obama to mention “Pittsburgh” or “Steelers” -130
Obama to mention “Green Bay” or “Packers” -110
Obama likes to pretend that he’s a ‘regular guy’ despite all evidence to the contrary, and since he’s a ‘regular guy’ he’s really into sports. He was planning to make the trip to Dallas had the Chicago Bears made the Super Bowl since he’s from Chicago and that’s what ‘regular guys’ do when their team makes the Big Game. Instead he’ll watch the game at the White House like most ‘regular guys’.
Of course Obama cares as much about sports as I do about glassblowing. It’s all a political calculation with him and that’s how we’re going to bet this prop. You can be sure that the team he mentions first will be based on careful analysis as to which team is most important to his electoral base. We’ll go with Pittsburgh, given their larger population and long history of involvement in organized labor due to the strong influence of the steel industry on their economy.
Bet Obama to mention “Pittsburgh” or “Steelers” first -130
THE LAMBEAU LEAP PROP:
5 Dimes has a prop about whether a player will celebrate a touchdown with a ‘Lambeau Leap’. They even have rules for this: “only applies after TD, return to ground must be impeded by stadium wall or crowd.” We think this is a no-brainer in a game involving the Packers and given the tight stadium configuration of Cowboys Stadium. If the Packers score a TD they’ll do it to honor their fans, if the Steelers score they’ll do it ironically but be look for the Lambeau Leap to happen.
Player celebrates TD w/jump into crowd YES -165
FORMER PLAYER INTERVIEW:
This prop has the bettor decide whether the first former player interviewed on the Fox TV broadcast starting at 6 PM ET/3 PM PT will be a former Steeler or a former Packer:
First Former Player Interviewed:
Ex-Steeler -170
Ex-Packer +250
This isn’t a matter of favoritism but of practicality–there’s just so many more high profile and charismatic ex Steelers than ex Packers. The most famous ex-Packer, of course, is Brett Favre and you can be sure that the NFL has no interest of his smirking mug appearing on the Super Bowl broadcast.
Bet First Former Player to Be Interviewed: Ex Steeler -170
