Nick Diaz

After watching Nick Diaz dismantle another opponent, by lighting up Cyborg to the point of making Cyborg think it was a good idea to take him down, we are beginning to hear a little but about how the fight came about. After the Mayhem Miller fight couldn’t be made, Paul Daley was approached to face Diaz, but he declined to take the fight. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker says that Daley is probably on deck for their Welterweight Champion, but thats only if Daley wins his fight. Daley is fighting in the UK, and even Coker admitted he wasn’t sure who was next if Daley falls short in his bout. Daniel Cormier is a likely candidate as well, but I think he is one of those people you want to develop first before you give them the title shot. Lets hope for a Daley win, because thats a perfect style match up for both fighters.

Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson

Strikeforce’s March 5th event in Ohio is beginning to take shape. As reported, the headline fight is looking to be a light heavyweight championship fight between Rafael Cavalcante and Dan Henderson. Strikeforce has announced three more fights to the card. Tim Kennedy will NOT be facing Jason Mayhem Miller (no reason given yet.) Instead, Kennedy will be facing Luke Rockhold (7-1) who is riding a 6 fight win streak. Kennedy is coming off of an unsuccessful middleweight championship bid against Jacare in August.

The womens welterweight title will also be on the line as Marloes Coenen and Miesha Tate will be squaring off as well. Coenen is coming off of a 3rd round submission(armbar) win over Sarah Kaufman back in October in San Jose. Miesha Tate is riding a five fight win streak, which includes a decision win over Hitomi Akano that earned her the Strikeforce Challengers Women’s 135 lb tournament in August.

With two title fights already on the card, I am assuming the final fight of the main card will be the now confirmed fight between Jorge Masvidal and Billy Evangelista. The undefeated Evangelista has two wins since his fight with Mike Aina which ended with him being disqualified for an illegal knee. When the commission reviewed the tape, they decided the knee hit the shoulder, and overturned the decision to a no contest. Other then that, the decision prone Evangelista’s record is spotless. Masvidal will be making his Strikeforce debut, and is coming off of a decision loss to Paul Daley at Shark Fights in September.

Tickets go on sale on February 1, 2011. The event will be the first that the organization has hosted in the state of Ohio and will coincide with the Arnold Sports Festival, which annually draws up to 150,000 sports fans.
