A good opportunity for value in NBA betting can be found on teams that are finally making progress in the long transition from doormat to contender. The Golden State Warriors have been ‘beneath the radar’ for much of the season but are starting to show signs of progress after years of mediocre or worse performance. Golden State is currently in third place in the Pacific Division, just 1 1/2 games behind second place Phoenix. While the reality may not be quite as impressive–the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers are the only team in the Pacific with a winning record–for a team more used to the cellar its a tangible sign of progress.
Golden State has a winning record at home and is starting to be a strong pointspread investment there as well. On their own floor they’re 13-9 SU/12-10 ATS and have been an even stronger play as a favorite. When the Warriors lay points they’re 12-3 SU/10-5 ATS. Against opponents with losing records, they’re 16-8 ATS. The Bobcats have shown improvement since Paul Silas took over as head coach, but they’re still a ‘work in progress’ as they attempt to play a more up-tempo style. The Warriors have struggled against opponents with good team defense, but we look for them to get back on the winning track against an opponent that plays a more suitable style.
