Beltran And Barry Talk About Their Fight This Saturday

As the day draws closer, Pat Barry and Joey Beltran have been talking about how their fight will play out. They are set to trade punches at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 (Fight Night 23) on January 22, 2011 at Fort Hood in Texas.
Pat Barry told MMAWeekly we should expect a brawl in the Octagon. Barry said “He’s a living zombie. Everything you throw is going to land on him, but he’s going to constantly walk forward and, eventually, you’re going to get too tired of hitting him in the face. And then, he’s going to catch you. Just like any movie zombie. Not the 2008, ’09 and ’10 zombies that run really fast, but the traditional ‘Night of the Living Dead’ zombies that crawl towards you really slow. Yeah, he’s like those.”
He also noted that he needs to play this fight safer then he did in his all out war with Mirco Cro Crop. In the loss, Barry left the octagon with broken bones in his hands and his feet. He continued “I realized that I’m capable of breaking my entire body trying to hit somebody. I just tried to make his head explode and it just didn’t work. My hand gave out before his face did.” He concluded “If I’m going to break my hand on Cro Cop’s face, then both of my hands are going to come off in this match. They’ve got to. There is no way I can punch him in the head and not break both of my hands and feet.”
Beltran is also coming off of a loss, and he blames himself for it. He noted that Matt Mitrione really got into his head, and he promises that that will never happen again. He said “I got to fight week and I had a clear head, and a clear idea of what I needed to do to win the fight. And then the shit talking started and out went the game plan and we got into a pissing contest. It was a good fight. It made for Fight of the Night, obviously, but it probably should have been a little bit different if I had stuck to what we worked on in the training camp. So, for me, once emotion gets involved, I kind of suck. I mean, I don’t suck. I just come out and try and kill the guy.” He concluded “When you go against a guy 20 pounds more than you, four inches taller than you with I don’t even know how many inches reach Matt had on me, it probably wouldn’t be the best idea to stand in front of him and swing at him. But that’s me in a nutshell. You talk (expletive), I’m going to come for you.”
Beltran also admitted the stakes were high in this fight. Beltran said “More than likely, it’s loser go home between us two. I don’t want to go back to DJing Bar Mitzvahs. I like fighting for a living and UFC is the place you gotta be for that to happen. It is what it is at this point. I think with the additions of all the WEC fighters and all those fighters getting under the payroll now, it is win or go home time. It’s all good, though. At the end of the day, if I get cut, it’s not the end of the world. You see people all the time get back here and I know that I haven’t come close to reaching my potential as a fighter. I just want to win and come back home.”
