UFC News: Terrible Reporting From The NY Post(video), Silva Reflects On Sonnen, Phan Talks Rematch(video)

New York Post Fail:
Last week, as I reported on Sportsbettingworld.com, the UFC held a press conference to reaffirm how committed they were to getting MMA sanctioned in New York. Part of the press conference was just strange. New York’s Media were in attendance, and it was just blatantly obvious they didn’t even bother to a little homework. One reporter asked Dana White “If you’re adding kicking and punching to mixed martial arts, how can you regulate it so that there isn’t serious injuries?”
Well if you thought that type of stupidity would only happen in an environment where the reporters have to be spontaneous, then hit the play button on this pile of garbage that was passed off as news by the New York Post:
Anderson Silva Talks Sonnen and Legacy
UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva hasn’t commented much about the fight he had with Chael Sonnen. Almost immediately, the fight was shrouded in controversy because of Sonnen’s use of unapproved substances. Silva briefly mentions in this statement about how he doesn’t seem so invincible anymore, and I have never heard him talk like that before:
“I’m always motivated to improve and be a better fighter. I believe that people put a big focus on things like having the belt. I don’t believe that having the belt really determines the type of fighter and type of person that you are. I try to set an example for the young fighters that are coming up and leave a legacy of what I’ve been able to do in this sport. I’m not concerned about who my next opponent is. He’s a dangerous opponent just like the rest. Whoever they put in front of me I’m here to fight. It’s every athlete’s dream to end their career as the champion, just like it’s mine. However, in this sport, it’s very difficult. After the Sonnen fight, people think I’m human again and that anything can happen. I could be knocked out, I could be submitted. For me, every time I go out there, it’s about more than just winning the fight. It’s about sending a positive message and leaving a message behind of what I was able to do in there.” Anderson Silva
Phan Talks Garcia And Rematch
I’m not sure why I didn’t see this rematch coming. Everybody and their brother knew that Leonard Garcia lost to Nam Phan. I knew it, Dana White knew it, Garcia knew it, Phan knew it, but the commission didn’t. The whole MMA community went five-alarm-freak-out when the judges announced that Garcia had won the split decision.
This wasn’t a close fight, I thought Phan beat Garcia handedly, and I don’t see the rematch going any different. According Garcia he wants to redo the fight to prove everyone he won, and apparently Phan doesn’t like the rematch, but at this stage in your career with the UFC, you don’t say no to Matchmaker Joe Silva. The rematch is set to go down at Ultimate Fight Night 24 in Seattle on Mar. 26.
Watch Phan talk about how he has nothing to prove by fighting Garcia:
