The obvious position in this game is to look at the ‘in season revenge’ concept and back the Patriots. Based on the longterm history of this series, that’s the way to play it. The Jets victory earlier this season was a rare change from the usual Patriots’ domination. New England is 12-4 SU in the last 16 meetings and the Pats have been dominant on their home field. New England has won 14 straight games Jets in Foxboro going 9-4-1 against the pointspread. The Pats have been one of the best home teams in football during the Tom Brady era–he’s led the team to 25 straight regular season victories at home as a starter.
We’ve been concerned about the Jets’ listless play in recent weeks–sure, they’re currently on a 4 game winning streak and have won 6 of their last 7 but they’ve been doing just enough to win in most weeks. New York has a very talented defense with great pass coverage, but they just haven’t been getting the interceptions lately. Jets secondary have intercepted only one pass in their last 7 games. On the other hand, any victory will cash a ticket here and the Jets are 5-0 SU on the road this season. On balance, we’d rather take a contrarian position in any NFL game but in this matchup we’ve got to go with the public and lay the points with the Pats. We’ll also look for this game to go Over the total. Keep an eye on the weather in the Boston area–the current forecast calls for snow flurries and windy conditions. Not too concerned about the weather’s impact on scoring–its not like these teams are strangers to playing in these conditions–but if they end up getting a more significant amount of snowfall it’s a different matter.
