Here’s the latest news from the boxing world:

-While this weekends schedule took a bit of a hit with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr’s withdrawal from the main event of tomorrow’s event in Anaheim, there is still enough action to keep boxing fans entertained. With Chavez out, Nonito Donaire steps up to fill the main event void as he takes on Wladimir Sidorenko. The co-main event of the evening features a WBC Lightweight title defense by Humberto Soto as he squares off against Urbano Antillon while Mikey Garcia takes on Olivier Lontchi in a ten round featherweight clash. Middleweights Pawel Wolak and Jose Pinzon open up the Top Rank Telecast. Fighters weighed in earlier today at the Honda Center:

Bantamweight: Nonito Donaire 118 lbs. vs Wladimir Sidorenko 117.6 lbs.
WBC Lighweight Championship:Humberto Soto 134.8 vs Urbano Antillon 135

-Fast rising junior middleweight contender Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be taking on the durable Lovemore N’dou tomorrow night in a 12 round affair in a HBO Latino televised event in Veracruz Mexico. The WBC Silver Junior Middleweight title of Alvarez will be on the line.

-Tonight on Showtime at 11 pm ET/PT power punching Nigerian cruiserweight Lateef Kayode looks to extend his unbeated streak as he takes on Ed Perry at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California. Kayode tipped the scale at 199.25 lbs. while Perry weighed slightly less at 198.75 lbs.

-Condolences go out to Don King and the rest of the King family as they mourn the passing of Don’s wife, Henrietta, whom he had been married to for over 50 years.

-Even with his thrilling performance against Michael Katisidis last weekend, don’t expect Juan Manuel Marquez to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent. Despite Marquez looking for a third fight, Pacquiao appears to be set in taking on Shane Mosley in his next bout.

-Lou DiBella, promoter of Middleweight Champ Sergio Martinez, recently hinted that Miguel Cotto leads the list of candidates of opponents that Martinez is considering for his HBO televised bout in March.

-March could be that month that another Puerto Rican boxing sensation makes his return to the ring as Juanma Lopez is expected to fight at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum against an opponent yet to be named.

-Former two division world champion, Tomasz Adamek celebrated his 34th birthday this week as he gets ready to take on the exciting Vinny Maddalone next week in a 12 round bout at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

-A press conference will be held on Tuesday morning to formally announce the much anticipated unification bout between junior welterweights Devon Alexander (WBC) and Timothy Bradley (WBO) which will be held at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit on January 29.

-It was announced earlier in the week that the 48 year old legend, Evander Holyfield will be taking on the 45 year old Brian Neilsen next March in Denmark.

-Quick note to Holyfield: Please stop…

-While we’re on the subject of heavyweights, yesterday Jean Marc Mormeck scored a 12 round split decision victory against Timur Ibragimov to claim a minor WBA heavyweight strap in Mormeck’s homeland of France.
