NBA Betting Preview: Detroit Pistons at Dallas Mavericks

NBA betting takes us to the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas where the Dallas Mavericks will host the Detroit Pistons. The Mavs are 8-4 and currently in third place in the Southwest Division while Detroit is 5-8 and in last place in the Central Division.

This matchup pits one of the best pointspread teams in the NBA against one of the worst–especially in this situation. The Detroit Pistons are still a long way from being a contender and its not really even clear if they’ve got a good plan for rebuilding their roster. Nevertheless, we’ve been impressed with their competitive fire in the early part of the season which has resulted in a very profitable run against the pointspread. So far this year the Pistons check in with a 9-4 ATS record overall, a 7-4 ATS record as an underdog and a 4-2 ATS record on the road.

In the other corner, we have the Dallas Mavericks who have been one of the biggest money burners in sports betting at home in recent years. The Mavs are just 4-3 SU at home and 1-4-2 ATS this season. Going back to the past two seasons, the Mavs are a horrible 34-58 ATS at American Airlines Arena. The pointspread price range for this game has been especially bad for the Mavs–as a home chalk of 9′ to 12 points Dallas is 12-2 SU but 3-10-1 ATS since 2008. Dallas has a conference game against Oklahoma City on deck and given their struggles to cover prices at home we’ll gladly take the points with a Pistons team that has shown a strong tendency to keep scrapping for 48 minutes a night.
